From Saturday, Oct. 24, through mid-November, almost everything on Oakland's public calendar happens at one address. The Oakland Public Library at 2 Municipal Plaza hosts an evening market, a free history talk, the 11th annual Truck Day, a gallery opening and the last outdoor market of 2026. They all fall within about three weeks.
Five dates, one address
Here's the run of dates, in order:
- Saturday, Oct. 24, 3 to 7 p.m. The Outdoor Market's Night Market at the library.
- Sunday, Nov. 1, 2 p.m. The Oakland Historical Society presents "New Jersey's Geography — A Revolutionary Hero" in the library's Community Room. The Patch listing says it's free and open to all.
- Saturday, Nov. 7, noon to 2 p.m. The library's 11th annual Truck Day, held rain or shine in the library's municipal parking lot. The borough calendar also lists an Outdoor Market that day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but the listing gives only "Oakland, NJ" as the location.
- Thursday, Nov. 12, 5 to 6:30 p.m. The opening reception for the Americana Autumn Art Exhibition & Sale in the library's Lower-Level Gallery.
- Saturday, Nov. 14, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The borough calendar labels this one Outdoor Market — Last Chance This Year!, back at the library.
That's six events across five dates. The Night Market, Truck Day and the final market are all set for the library parking lot, and the history talk and art reception use rooms inside the same building. The common thread is the volunteer group behind the market.
A market run by volunteers
Most towns have a recreation department or chamber of commerce running their market. Oakland's Outdoor Market comes out of the arts side of borough life. On the borough website, the market page sits under the Arts Committee's art events. The organizers' 2026 notice says the market is "presented by the volunteers of Arts in Oakland" and gives [email protected] as the contact.
The 2026 season opened on Saturday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Since then it has run on select Saturdays in the library parking lot, usually with those same hours. In a Patch post from May, the organizers said the market is "powered by community—bringing people together to support local makers, small businesses, and everything that makes Oakland thrive."
Arts in Oakland also helps present the art show opening on Nov. 12, along with the library and the borough. That's why the end of the season holds together. The volunteers running Saturdays in the parking lot are also planning the gallery season downstairs.
Why the Oct. 24 market starts at 3
The Night Market changes the usual schedule. The borough calendar lists it for 3 to 7 p.m., which moves the market from late morning into the evening.
This is the format's second year. The Oakland Communications Commission posted a recap video of the Oct. 25, 2025 Night Market, with Oakland Television Committee Vice Chairman Richard Sasson interviewing vendors and organizers. In that recap, Andrea Levy of the Arts in Oakland team called it "our very first night event." She said the market had been running since 3 p.m. and would go until 7, and that the final market of the season would return to the normal 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. hours. This year's listing keeps the same 3-to-7 window.
The afternoon start also helps with the rest of the weekend. If you have a Saturday morning game or errands, you can still make the market, and it ends before a late dinner.
What's been on the tables this season
The organizers' May post listed a sample of vendors "throughout this season." It isn't a lineup for any one date. The same post sends shoppers to the market's Facebook and Instagram to see who's coming each week. The season's list leans heavily toward handmade goods:
- Food: Stop Drop & Eggroll, a gourmet eggroll food truck, and Butter and Bliss, which sells mini cakes in several flavors.
- Woodwork: Home Made Crafts, 2stixdesigns, and Wolf Woodworking & Laser Engraving, which makes personalized engraved gifts.
- Wreaths and door decor: Cynder's Crafty Creations LLC and Sharon's Door Decor, which makes interchangeable wreaths.
- Art, photography and gifts: Landscape by Mia with original photography prints, Ibdesignsstudio with custom art and gifts, and Joiful Designss with custom accessories and 3D prints.
- Jewelry, crystals and handmade pieces: Every Dream, Miss Crazy Boutique, Joa's Creations and Crafty Designs by Jane.
The timing matters here. Engraved gifts, wreaths and handmade jewelry are things people often buy as holiday gifts. With the last market on Nov. 14, the final two Saturdays are the last chance this year to buy from these makers at a market in town.
Inside the same building
While the market winds down outside, events inside the library keep going.
The Americana Autumn Art Exhibition & Sale runs from Nov. 12 through Dec. 13 in the Lower-Level Gallery. According to Patch, the borough is asking for studio artwork and photography, and the submission deadline is Oct. 25, the day after the Night Market. If you paint or take photos, you could shop the market on Saturday and submit your work by Sunday.
The Historical Society talk on Nov. 1 is in the library's Community Room at 2 p.m.
Families have a few more reasons to stop by. The library's children's page says Truck Day on Nov. 7 brings DPW, fire, first-aid and police vehicles to the parking lot from noon to 2 p.m., free and rain or shine. The following Friday, Nov. 13, Ms. Christina leads "Jiggly Wiggly" from 11 to 11:45 a.m., and registration is required.
After Nov. 14
The market's final Saturday wraps up the library lot's outdoor season. The next big date on the borough calendar is the Holiday Stroll with Tree and Menorah Lighting on Dec. 6. The stroll runs from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., and the lighting is at 5 p.m. The art show is still up in the Lower-Level Gallery that night. It runs a week past the stroll.
For a meal before or after any of these, Ramapo Valley Road is close by. Cenzino, at 589 Ramapo Valley Road, serves lunch and dinner. Cafe L'Amore, an Italian restaurant in Oakland, offers dine-in, takeout, delivery and catering. After the Night Market closes at 7, either one makes an easy dinner stop.
Oakland's late-autumn calendar is mostly built by volunteers who keep returning to the same parking lot. If you've been thinking about selling an Oakland home, or about which parts of town put you within walking distance of Municipal Plaza, The Only Orly Group is glad to talk it over. We can cover how close you'd be to the library, how quiet a street stays on a busy market Saturday, and how a fall listing could line up with this calendar. Schedule a Free Consultation, and we'll go through it with you before the last market on Nov. 14.
